Much More Wholesome
in Rap & Hiphop by Andrew E
In 2000, Philippine rapper Andrew E. followed up 1999's best-selling Wholesome with Much More Wholesome. On "Ang Bastos Daw" (They Said It's Gross), he notes the criticism he received for Wholesome (which contained many double entendres with sexual connotations), pointing out that the album remained a top seller despite attempts to ban the music in such cities as Baguio, Dagupan, and Cebu. He says that the lyrics only became obscene when people thought of them as such. Not many people will be convinced, though, and he neglects mentioning "Mahal Kita" (I Love You), which contained explicit sexual lyrics. On Much More Wholesome, he greatly tones down the double entendres and sexual content. "Text," for example, is a commentary on the popularity of phone texting in the Philippines. Still, "OU812" contains explicit lyrics of a sexual nature. As on Wholesome, he decries his critics, and often boasts about his talents, aptly pointing out that he still makes albums while other local rap groups have disappeared. Read More
