Team POS delegates Triforce Omega kicked things off well, backed by the seamlessly tight stylings of Five Alarm Funk on drums, bass, keys and guitar. Tight back and forth rhyming in quick time over precision grooves got the crowd moving early, and proved that POS's sound is ever evolving -- keep repping East Van!

Straight outta Brooklyn, J-Live rocked the tightest flows of the night, freestyling on top of his classic tracks like "Not Satisfied" and "Peace Y'all", spitting endless lines of lyrical science like Charlie Parker on the mic, even stepping up to the wheels of steel to simultaneously rhyme and beat juggle -- fucking astounding! Truly this man is Hip Hop embodied in human form, and I just didn't want him to quit.

DJ Flash took the stage to pump the crowd up for Little Brother, bumping classic bangers and hyping us up Old School style, with shout-outs on the mic. When LB finally took the stage to hit us in the head with "Sirens", the opening track from the new album "get Back", the floor was packed with nodding ballcaps and drunk hotties seriously feeling the bass heavy, True School sound. Rapper Big Pooh and Phonte were in fine form, trading verses with ease, Pooh freestyling over Phonte's beatbox, with Dion singing the soulful hooks throughout. Especially good were the breakdowns at the end of some songs where they would take it right down to vocals only, and between the three of them it still filled the room.

Little Brother's sound recalls the Golden Era of late 80's early 90's Hip Hop, with soulful samples and heavy boom bap drums. Coming outta North Carolina, they contrast with the crunk sound associated with the "Drrrty South", and there were no ice grills in sight. They did, however, get crunk like a motherfucker this time, running all over the stage, jumping off monitors, with an energy level that I found unbelievable given their notable size (they must both be 200 lbs +!!!). As their MySpace states, their goal is to make "dope music", and on this evening they went from dope to the next level of Hip- Hop greatness -- truly phat.
